Vertebrate Publishing launches a Kickstarter project with award-winning sports photographer David Miller

In March this year Jasmin Paris made history when she became the first woman to complete the Barkley Marathons – the image of her slumped against the gate at the finish line becoming one of the most iconic sports photographs of all time.

That photograph was taken by award-winning sports photographer David Miller who spent a week at Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee documenting the race and its racers. Now David has teamed up with outdoor-adventure publisher Vertebrate in the hope of bringing a collection of these photographs to life in a beautiful and inspiring book that will bring you closer than ever to one of the world’s most infamous races.

Miller said: ‘I love this sport and I love being creative, so trail running and photography just go hand-in-hand for me. I really do try to cover every aspect of trail running, from the start to the finish and everything in between, capturing the pure humanity of the moment.’

The project, titled Do Not Block Gate, is now live on Kickstarter where you can pledge to receive a number of awards, including a hardback copy signed by the author and Jasmin Paris with a limited-edition print of Jasmin finishing her iconic race.

The book comprises 200 photographs – 90% of them never before published – and exclusively shot in monochrome on a Leica Q2 Monochrom. All editions will be printed to the highest quality, and case bound in cloth with silver foil blocking and finished with a gloss dust jacket. Two per cent of the profits will be donated to The Green Runners, a running community making changes for a fitter planet.
