Vienna City Marathon: Where Running meets Music, Culture & Unity
The Vienna City Marathon (VCM) is a celebration of sport and culture in Vienna, the World’s Capital of Music. Marathon runners start their run with Johann Strauss’s Blue Danube Waltz, setting a uniquely Viennese tone.
A key feature is its partnership with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and, in 2025, the organizers of the Johann Strauss Year. The “Let the Music Play” initiative enlivens the course with performances by young musicians, reflecting Vienna’s commitment to fostering talent and honoring its musical heritage.
With over 42,000 participants from 150+ nations, the VCM embodies inclusivity and joy, with numerous charity initiatives encouraging runners to make a difference.
The scenic course passes Vienna’s iconic landmarks, including the Ringstrasse and Prater, showcasing why it’s considered the world’s most livable city. The Prater Hauptallee, where Eliud Kipchoge broke the two-hour marathon barrier, adds global sporting prestige.
The VCM is organized by the VCM Group, Austria’s leading running agency. In addition to the marathon, it organizes numerous local races, partners on major international events like the INEOS 1:59 Challenge, and creates customized runs for congresses and companies, merging fitness with teamwork.
The Vienna City Marathon is more than a race—it’s a unique blend of music, culture, and athletic excellence in the heart of Vienna.
