The Coronation of King Charles III – What you need to know
The Coronation of King Charles III is an event that will mark a significant milestone in the history of the United Kingdom. The ceremony will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023 at Westminster Abbey, London, and will be a grand spectacle that will attract the attention of people from all around the world. This will include a weekend of events and a special Bank Holiday on Monday 8th May.
The Coronation will formally declare Prince Charles as the new monarch and will be a highly symbolic event that represents the transfer of power from one monarch to another. The programme of events for each day is as follows:

- Sunday 7th May – The Coronation Big Lunch and Coronation concert at Windsor
- Monday 8th May – The Big Help Out community activity
During the ceremony, the new monarch will take a solemn oath to uphold the laws and customs of the country and to defend the Church of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury will anoint the new king with holy oil and place the royal crown on his head, while the congregation sings the national anthem. After the Coronation ceremony, the new monarch will go on a procession through the streets of London, in a carriage pulled by horses. This is an opportunity for the public to catch a glimpse of the new king and to celebrate the occasion. The day will end with a grand banquet at Buckingham Palace, attended by the new king and other members of the royal family, as well as distinguished guests.
