The performance of the 100% recyclable INDEX.02 running shoe has been upgraded to be lighter and  more comfortable.

New RunLife apparel collection offers lightweight and versatile clothing made with sustainability in mind.

ANNECY, FRANCE—Over the past several years, Salomon has established itself as a legitimate player in the road running footwear market by combining biomechanics research on road runners with its knowledge gained from decades as the leader in the sport of trail running. The result of that work is another road running range for spring/summer ’23 offers running shoes to suit the needs of every runner. That means everything from speedy road racing shoes to ultra-comfortable distance offerings.

For the speedsters, Salomon created the super light and fast S/LAB Phantasm CF, which is being used by athletes like Filimon Abraham—a sub-28-minute, 10K runner—and Noah Droddy, who completed the Marathon Project in Chandler, Arizona in 2:09:09.

Runners seeking a comfy and secure training shoe can trust the Predict SOC 2, which won multiple awards from running media in 2022. Also in 2022, Salomon unveiled the Glide Max, the company’s first full-stack road running shoe, with just the right combination of cushioning and bounce for everyday runs.

Salomon is also improving its environmental impact thanks to the use of recycled materials. That efforts was most evident in the first recyclable running shoe, the Index.01. or 2023, the Index.02 is an updated and improved version in a 100% recyclable design. The shoe’s construction allows it to be disassembled at the end of its life, then sent back to be  recycled into a new product, lessening the impact of the shoes by bringing circularity to their end of life. The performance benefits of Index.02 have been vastly upgraded for spring/summer ’23. 

Also, for spring/summer 2023, Salomon is unveiling a new Aero franchise of everyday running shoe. The Aero Road running shoe models build on proven Salomon footwear technologies—like Energy Foam for cushion and energy-return; the rocker geometry called Reverse Camber for quick transition with every stride—and incorporate several new ones. Depending on the breathability needs, Aero models feature 3D, single-layer or Engineered mesh structures. The range features versatile shoes for all levels, from beginners to committed runners.

Building off the successful high-stack Salomon Glide Max shoe, the Aero Glide delivers maxed-out cushioning to rack up the miles. The midsole features Salomon’s Energy Foam technology, which combines EVA and Olefin, absorbs shock and vibrations, and creates a super plush cushioning while still providing great bounce and energy return. The result is comfort even after hundreds of miles. The proven rocker geometry, called R.Camber, creates a quick transition every time you touch the ground and keeps you moving forward. The upper of the shoe, made with 32% recycled materials (by weight) keeps your feet dry thanks to a lighter 3D open mesh. The soft padded tongue and collar combine to offer easy step-in and comfort while you run. At just 264 grams, the Aero Glide is the go-to shoe for comfortable, everyday runs.

Looking to push yourself on your local loop? The Aero Volt is the lighter, faster, bolder choice in the new Aero franchise. It boasts the same bottom unit as the Aero Blaze, with Salomon’s Energy Foam technology for a soft cushion and dynamic bounce. The upper uses carefully selected materials and a single-mesh construction that differs from the Aero Blaze to optimize the air flow, so that your feet stay dry and don’t overheat on warm summer runs. In terms of fit, the shoe delivers comfort from the moment you pull it on until the end of your run thanks to premium fabrics and a foot-hugging upper construction. Weighing only 216 grams, the Aero Volt is the lightest of the franchise and features the most aggressive look for the boldest runners.

For runners seeking the ideal balance of lightness and max cushioning, the Aero Blaze is the go-to shoe for any run. Like the other shoes in the Salomon Aero franchise, the Aero Blaze features the super cushy Energy Foam, which delivers optimal comfort as well as a dynamic bounce in the bottom unit. At 234 grams, the Aero Blaze also has an upper designed for comfort and breathability in all situations. It also uses 25% of recycled materials (by weight); 56% in the upper alone. The Engineered Mesh structure varies the weave to offer more flexibility and breathability. Soft, padded materials on the tongue and foot-hugging upper construction deliver step-in comfort that will last from your first stride to your last on everyday runs.

The all-new Index.02 is Salomon’s second recyclable running shoe, building on the ground-breaking Index.01, which was launched in 2021. The Index.02 is 100% recyclable and features vast improvements performance-wise over its predecessor. Most notably, the midsole foam and midsole geometry have been upgraded to increase comfort and running performance by delivering smoother transitions from stride to stride. The Index.02 uses a lightweight Infiniride foam for plush, long-lasting comfort. This TPU foam is also the only foam that is fully recyclable. The weight of the Index.02 has also been reduced from 288 grams down to 263 grams (sample size 8.5 UK).

There have also been updates to the upper, which now features more colors, softer materials and premium finishes for improved step-in comfort. Specifically, the upper uses Engineered Mesh, a structure that varies the weave to offer more support, breathability, and flexibility or durability, according to the specific needs of the shoe. Like its predecessor, the Index.02 features a unique construction that allows it to be disassembled at the end of its life, so that the shoe materials can be recycled and used to make a new product. There is even a subtle line along the shoe showing where it will be split when it is recycled. A QR code on the tongue of one shoe allows you to easily scan it and register it after purchase, making it easy to return it for recycling at the end of its life. Like the Index.01, when Index.02 shoes are sent back for recycling, the materials will be used in the construction of Salomon alpine ski boots.
