On Squad Race – the challenge is On!
With the On Squad Race, running becomes the ultimate team sport.
Zurich, Switzerland, 22 August 2022 — Speed, strategy, and performance mix in an action-packed competition format in which every runner, every step and every second counts.
The event concept started as the On “Tug-O-Run” in 2018 and has evolved from an in-person race format with 750 runners in Germany to a global virtual event with almost 4500 participants in 2021. This year, the Squad Race will take place in virtual and physical form and offer runners the chance to take part in one of the in-person race in different European cities or enjoy the Squad Race experience virtually.
How does it work?
Each squad taking part in the On Squad Race must have at least seven runners in their squad and least 30% of them must be female. The event is divided in a training phase (August 22nd – September 9th), a European Race Day (September, 9th – 10th) and, for the 32 most successful teams, the European Finals end of the year 2022 where a European champion squad will be crowned.
The Challenge
After a squad registers, they collect as many kilometers as possible in the training phase from. On Race Day it is all about running a 5 km race as fast as possible. The final team time is the average time a team spends running, minus 1 second for the average number of kilometers the squad runs in the training phase and minus 1 second for every squad member who takes part on race day (up to the 100th runner).
Race Day
Physical Race Day events will take place all over Europe, in Berlin, London, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, Oslo, Barcelona, and Zurich but each squad can also join the Race Day virtually between September 9, 6PM and September 10, 9PM by hosting their own race or running individually and joining forces virtually.
“Driving run culture means collaborating with and listening to our core. It’s about co-creating energy and heat with collaborations and partnerships that fuse performance. As a strong performance brand, On must engage with runners by building, strengthening and connecting its community.“, says Lisa Tschanz, Head of Events and Hospitality at On. “This is where the On SquadRace comes into play. The concept creates emotions, builds a network, connects communities and gives back to good causes. It is a unique and proven running movement that combines performance competition, community and societal support.”
