On athletes leave their marks on Diamond League season 2022
The 13th Diamond League season marked the first time that On athletes took the spotlight in the elite-level series of athletics competitions.
The Wanda Diamond League finals in Zürich conclude an intense competition season for the best track and field athletes in the world. Next to succeeding at the World Championships in Eugene (USA), the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (GBR) and the European Championships in Munich (GER), the 13th Diamond League season also marked the first time that On athletes took the spotlight in the elite-level series of athletics competitions.
In the course of the season, 13 On athletes from nine different nations competed on the highest level of track running at the Diamond League, distances ranging from 800 to 5000 meters. 35 starts in Diamond League events lead to six podium results, including the fist-ever Diamond League win for On set by Dominic Lobalu (SSD) in the 3000 meter race in Stockholm. Seven athletes qualified for the Diamond League Finals in Zürich, the pinnacle event of the season held at Letzigrund stadium, only a stone’s throw from the On headquarters.
Australian middle-distance runner and OAC member Oliver Hoare was the most successful On athlete with a total of four podium results on the 1500 meter and 1 mile distances (2nd in Eugene and Oslo, 1 mile; 3rd in Birmingham and Zürich on the 1500m distance), followed by Dominic Lobalu who did not only claim the win in Stockholm but also stormed to an impressive second place over 5000 m in at the Diamond League Finals in Zürich. Alicia Monson and Sage Hurta (USA) completed the On podium foursome. Monson came so close to winning her first-ever Diamond League and ranked second by a hair’s breadth in the 3000 meter race in Lausanne and Hurta took the third place in the 800m event at the Diamond League finals in Zürich.
Next to these big milestones, On athletes also succeeded on the personal level by steadily improving their performances. In total, eleven athletes set personal bests in the Diamond League meetings 2022: Marta Garcia, Geordie Beamish (2x), Sage Hurta, Olli Hoare (2x), Alicia Monson (2x), Dominic Lobalu (2x), Courtney Wayment. On top of that, On athletes secured one new area record (Olli Hoare, 1 mile, Oslo), one national record (Luke McCann, 1000 m, Monaco) and one world leading time (Dominic Lobalu, 7:29.48, 3000 m, Stockholm).
