Runners went all out at Willen Lake with the Dry January® 10k!

This February, the Dry January® 10k returned for its second year in a sporty celebration of the Dry January® challenge, helping participants embrace new year running adventures in 2025!

Organised by Alcohol Change UK with help from the organising team from last year, we just had a feeling the Dry January® 10k was bound to be a blast – and we weren’t wrong!

The in-person 5k and 10k events took place on 2nd February in the stunning Willen Lake, in Milton Keynes, and for those who couldn’t be there in person, a virtual option allowed participants from around the world to join in the sporty fun for a truly inclusive event.

Over 180 runners gave it their all and got stuck in despite the usual winter weather. The runners put in a valiant effort, conquering the beautiful loops of the lake.

As well as their sporting achievements, we also have to acknowledge the fantastic fundraising efforts of participants who to date have raised over £10,595 in sponsorship, helping us raise vital funds to tackle alcohol harm in the UK. Our runners got seriously creative – and we can’t thank them enough for all their incredible efforts. Every penny they raise helps Alcohol Change UK to improve and save lives from alcohol harm across the UK.

Runner Kevin, from Sennen Cove near Penzance, described the great atmosphere at the event: “The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. It was such a lot of fun. Everyone here was really friendly and encouraging. It’s one of the best 10ks I’ve done in a long time!”

Robin Plowman, Senior Community and Challenge Events Manager at Alcohol Change UK, who ran the event said: “It was amazing to see so many people out at the lake to take on the Dry January® 5k and 10k. We had fantastic day and the atmosphere was electric.

“It’s been a massive team effort so I have to say a big THANK YOU to everyone at Alcohol Change UK (staff, ambassadors, community champions and partners), especially those there on the day, to Dean and his team for staging the event for a second year, and to all the runners, spectators and donors. Thank you for helping us raise such a wonderful amount to help us end alcohol harm!

“We’ll be using knowledge and insight from Running Industry Alliance (RIA) & The Running Conference (TRC) to help guide and develop the event. We have a great foundation for growth in the years to come!”
