361˚ RACE REPORT ZAZFIRO PALMA MARATHON 2022: FOLLOW THE SUN
As the dust finally settles from the weekend, 361˚ have taken the time to break down the racing, their involvement and where next from the Zafiro Palma Marathon 2022.
BUILDUP˚
Starting over a year ago, 361˚ Europe made the commitment to be once again involved in the Palma Marathon, which is a festival of running situated in the sun-kissed capital of the Balearic island of Mallorca. The event offers participants the opportunity to race one of three distances: 10KM*, Half Marathon or Full Marathon, and in this iteration attracted over 6000 entrants from 60+ countries across the globe. The brand invited visitors to the race the chance to try on 361˚ running shoes and apparel, and show the masses what they were really about.
From Friday onwards, runners arrived at the Palma Marathon expo to collect their race bibs, activate their timing chips in the 361˚zone, and soak up the sun. The weather, typically unpredictable on the island, maintained an overall calmness for the majority of the weekend, as if almost in anticipation of what was to come.
RACEDAY˚
An early start beckoned on Sunday morning, with the Marathon getting underway just as the sun broke clear of the horizon at 8am. The Half and 10KM* following shortly after at 8:30 and 8:45 respectively. By 10:30am, the first male finisher had already wrapped up the Marathon, with Aziz Boutal of Spain posting a new course record of 2:27:14. In the women’s race, Julia Davis of the UK stormed to victory in 2:42:52, another course record.
In the Half Marathon, the men’s and women’s winners scorched round to winning times of 1:13:02 (James McKenzie, UK) and 1:23:20 (Louise Cartmell, UK).
Most of the group travelling from 361˚, including ambassadors and staff members, opted to do the 10KM*, won by Yennick Reihs of Germany and Sofia Luna, who each pulled away early on in the men’s and women’s editions.
Making your way around the course, it was hard to miss the brand, with spectators offering out high fives to the runners passing by!

WHERE NEXT?˚
Bryce Sage, European Marketing Manager at 361˚ had this to say:
“Thank you to the organisors of the Zafiro Palma Marathon for allowing to be involved in one of the best Marathon weekends on the European calendar. As a brand, we are keen to grow awareness as a technical running brand, both in Europe and Spain itself. Palma presented us with a fantastic opportunity to both interact with the runner at large and support what is consistently a brilliant event. As we move further away from COVID19, we at 361˚ wish to further grow and establish ourselves in the running event scene, allowing us to showcase our shoes and what we can offer to the running community itself.”
Moving through the year and into 2023, 361˚ is proud to not only continue to support of the Palma Marathon for another edition, but also announce its support of the Curly’s Athletes Doncaster City 10k 2022 on the 27th of November and the BTR Liverpool Skyline Half Marathon 2023 on the 23rd of March. Entry and more information for both of these events can be accessed through the links attached to each!
