Motiv Sports: 7,000 runners set to represent more than 50 charities at Wizz Air Hackney Half Marathon
56 national and local charities have partnered with the biggest half marathon in London, with thousands of runners doing their bit to raise vital funds.
The Wizz Air Hackney Half Marathon raised over £2.4m for its official charity partners in 2024. More than 7,000 charity places have been secured, with 32 of the charities boasting teams of more than fifty runners.
Alzheimer’s Society is the headline charity, while other national charities include, Macmillan Cancer Support, GOSH, St Mungos, British Heart Foundation, Homerton Healthcare and Shelter.
The event, organised by Motiv Sports, will also support local charities including Hackney Night Shelter, St Joseph’s Hospice and Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest. All charity places have now sold for the Wizz Air Hackney Half Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 18 May.
Alongside the main event, the Hackney Moves Festival takes over the iconic Hackney Marshes, with live music, entertainment and activities for participants, friends and family to celebrate together. A free, community 5k is also staged that weekend.
Cara Humphreys, Charity Partnerships Manager at Motiv Sports, said: “We were really pleased to raise over £2.4m for our wonderful charity partners last year. It’s great that we can help harness everyone’s incredible efforts through our events.
“We are delighted to have sold all our charity places which is a testament to the generosity of our runners. With every place sold we have a great chance to smash last year’s total.”
