RECORDS BROKEN AS 24,000 TAKE PART IN THE MANCHESTER HALF

It was a record-breaking day at the Manchester Half 2024 last Sunday (13th October), as a whopping 24,000 lined up to take on the sold out challenge which saw new course records and £1,100,000 raised for charity.

A jubilant atmosphere marked the cool and still morning, as participants of different abilities and motivations lined up to take on the 13.1 miles through Greater Manchester.  Tens of thousands of supporters lined the flat route, which headed toward the city centre and through the communities of Stretford, Sale and Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

In no time at all, the first finishers were flying over the line. Sean Frame beat the previous Elite Wheelchair record in a quick 00:48:28, with PUMA-athletes Jack Rowe and Lucy Reid coming in to take first place in their respective Men’s and Women’s categories in 01:01:12 and 01:09:13. As the sun rose higher in the sky, the mass field began to flow thick through the finish line to the cheering crowds. This included Emmerdale’s Isabel Hodgins, who achieved her goal and personal best time of sub-2 hours, as well as Coronation Street’s Elle Mulvaney and Emrhys Cooper who celebrated completing their first half marathons at the event.

Finishers collected their epic bee-inspired finisher’s medal and rewards from ERDINGER Alkoholfrei and Applied Nutrition in the Event Village. Smiling, but on tired legs, many took advantage of the Runna Recovery Zone, which was kitted out with foam rollers and yoga mats to get finishers back on their feet.

The official charity sum raised for various good causes, including the Official Charity Partners, Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK and The Christie, was £1,100,00.

Well done to all finishers at the event, and thank you to the official partners, charities, volunteers and crew. The event returns next year on Sunday 12th October 2025 – make sure to register your interest here before entries open to the public for a limited time on Tuesday 15th October.
