Leanne Sodergren, mlplaw’s Chief Operating Officer, reflects on mlplaw’s 35th birthday and her time at mlplaw.
‘We are celebrating a significant milestones this year – mlplaw’s 35th birthday!
We are now headquartered in Altrincham however, prior to this, mlplaw actually started out in Northenden. We moved to Altrincham in 2003 and it has been our home ever since.
The original founding partners were Ronnie Myers (Private Client), Gillian Price (Family Law) and Michael Lister (Litigation and PI) – hence the name ‘mlp.’ We now provide a full range of legal services for businesses and individuals, across: Corporate and Commercial Law, Employment, Disputes Resolution, Commercial Property, Residential Conveyancing, Wills, Trust and Probate and Family Law.
This year I will have been at the firm for 21 years alongside Accounts Manager, Anna Adamson celebrating an outstanding 25 years. When I started in law, women in leadership and board positions were a rarity. At the time it was also extremely common for law firms to operate under a partnership, meaning only qualified lawyers could become partners and it looked like I had reached the summit of my career. But, to my surprise, Stephen Attree and Michael Lister called me into the boardroom one day and announced they would be changing the firm’s structure to an Alternative Business Structure (ABS), allowing non-lawyers to become partners to sit around the board table. This change provided an opportunity to achieve my career goal of becoming a Partner.

Our 35th birthday not only marks a celebration of longevity, but also reflects the confidence clients have placed in us over the years.
Working with Stephen to create a fantastic place to work has been challenging, emotional but most of all fun. We have transformed the firm in to the amazing place to work for the team and offering exceptional client service. Looking ahead, we remain committed to delivering bespoke professional legal services, promoting the professional development of our team, and supporting our local communities.’
