On athletes claim national track champion titles in Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Canada

With the athletics season in full swing and building towards the highlight of the World Championships, the weekend saw many national championship events being held. On athletes won seven titles and a total of 12 medals across the events in Switzerland, Canada, Spain, Italy, and Poland. Meanwhile, world no.1 Iga Świątek proceeded to win her fourth tennis tournament this year.

Tom Elmer, Jonas Raess, and Giulia Senn win in Switzerland

On Athletes Giulia Senn, Tom Elmer, and Jonas Raess all claimed the covered national champion title at the Swiss Championships held in Bellinzona.

Senn took the 400m win with a new U23 national record in 51,78. Lily Nägeli was on start in the women’s 1500m race and claimed a bronze medal in 4:21.08, while fellow On athlete Rachel Pellaud repeated the feat in the 800m race in which she stormed to a time of 2:03.07 and position three.

OAC’s Jonas Raess won his sixth Swiss national title by taking the victory in the men’s 5,000m race in a time of 13:44,00. Fellow On athlete Eric Rüttimann claimed the bronze medal in 14:18,42, and Patrick Wägeli was sixth in 14:25,70. OAC Europe’s Tom Elmer dominated the men’s 1500m race and won gold by over 7 seconds in a strong time of 3:36,34.

Kieran Lumb and Ben Flanagan claim gold in Canada

On athlete Kieran Lumb won the Canadian Championship 1500m title in 3:37.24 and defeated four-time champion Charles Philibert-Thiboutot at the meet in Langley in the process. Not to be outdone, teammate Ben Flanagan took the win in the 5000m with an incredible last lap and a time of 13:29.36.

Vissa shines in Italy, Garcia and Garcia Romo are successful in Spain, Konieczek with bronze in Poland

OAC Athlete Sinta Vissa claimed a victory at the Italian Championships in Molfetta. She finished first in the 1500m race in a time of 4:06.85.

OAC Europe’s Marta García successfully defended her 5.000m title at the Spanish championships in Torrent. In a slow and tactical race, Garcia took control with a few laps to go and had a very fast last kilometer to win in 16:40.94. Fellow Spanish OAC Athlete Mario Garcia Romo took third place in the men’s 1500m race. He claimed the bronze medal in 3:34.77.

The Polish Outdoor National Championships took place in Gorzów Wielkopolski, and steeplechaser and On athlete Alicja Konieczek was third in the 3000m SC event.
